The Black Scholar is deeply saddened by news of the transition of Dr. Bernice Johnson Reagon on July 16, 2024. Her contributions to Black American music, activism, and scholarship are inestimable. Dr. Reagon was part of the historic 1976 Black Scholar visit to Cuba by Black American cultural workers. We are proud to share her report on the experience.
